Children's picture book exhibition
29th May 2019 - 20th August 2019
Erewash Museum, High Street, Ilkeston, DE7 5JA
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said:
“This is a wonderful exhibition by Kerry, an artist who has lived in Ilkeston all her life. Young and old alike will love the illustrations and reading the rhyming text that brings the story to life".
When a call out from the Museum's manager, Helen Martinez, went live on their Facebook page asking for local artist's to exhibit their work, I immediately got in touch. "The Greatest Cake" hadn't quite made it into book form, but I had lots of pages of original artwork which told a story. Helen was so enthusiastic about my work and encouraged me to not only create the exhibition but also hold 2 free drop in workshops for children and families to come along to draw/colour in their own greatest cakes!

As I was working full time in an office job at the time, it was hard work collating everything, but I was able to raise the funds myself for all the frames and fixtures, as well as the printing costs for the text.
The success of this exhibition led me to create a crowd funder to get the book published. School visits followed and more commissioned work started to come in, which meant I was able to work as a full time self employed illustrator.
