Children's Picture Book Exhibition

Saturday 15th August - Thursday 10th September 2020

Once again this exhibition was held in my home town of Ilkeston at my local museum, Erewash Museum, Derbys. Originally planned to run from July to August 2020 with a series of 4 free drop in illustration workshops for local families, this had to be delayed and re-structured due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Erewash Museum did a wonderful job of arranging a new time slot booking system with a one way, socially distanced route through The Lally Gallery, where families could still enjoy looking at all the original art work which went into the making of the finished book. I also still managed to hold 3 "Bookmark making" workshops during one of those weeks, where I enjoyed meeting 2 family "bubbles" at a time in their outside gazebo.

The Peg People's themes focus on anxiety, creativity, kindness and friendship. This felt like the perfect picture book to release at such a strange and uncertain time.

I planned the whole layout in the gallery so that the viewer had plenty of information to read as well as look at the imagery.

I wanted to give families an idea of the level of work that goes into a short picture book.

My favourite part of the exhibition was the glass cabinet below, full of all the inspirations for this story.

Special thanks to the Eaton Fund for giving me a small arts grant to cover the cost of all the frames and materials to hang them.

And once again, a huge thank you to my local printers/publishers, Moorleys Ltd, who did such a wonderful job of bringing my story to life.
